Happy Life.........................

After a lot of time at home, first with covid induced  quarantine, and later with a new and young Ambaadi, we were badly in need to get out of house and enjoy a vacation. This thanksgiving, we planned for Garner state park. A little research on instagram promised fall colors and scenic landscape.We were all excited. Booked an Airbnb in  Leakey, close to the park. We originally planned for 3 families with 6 adults and 6 kids, but one family had to drop out as they got sick. We proceeded on the trip with 2 families - Anil, Mary, Ken, Joanna + Us 4 We started on Wednesday afternoon from Austin after a good lunch at Chick-Fil-A. After about a 4 hours drive, we reached our destination. It was a big house  with almost an acre of combined yard in the front and back. It was dark by the time we reached the place. So after we settled into our rooms, Anil and I went out to get some dinner. As it was thanksgiving eve, most of the places were closed early and the only place open was a pizza place.

എനിക്ക് നാലോ അഞ്ചോ വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ ആണ് "ദി റെഡ് ബലൂൺ " കാണുന്നത്.  ഏകദേശം 30 കൊല്ലങ്ങൾക്കു  ശേഷം ഇപ്പോഴ്  മനസ്സിൽ ഓര്മയുള്ളതു ഒരു കുട്ടിയും  അവന്റെ കൂടെ കളിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ബലൂണും ആണ്. ഈയെടെ ആ സിനിമ ഒന്ന് കൂടെ കണ്ടു. എന്റെ 5 വയസ്സുള്ള മോളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു  കൂടെ. ബലൂണും കുട്ടിയും തമ്മിലുള്ള കളികൾ അവൾ രസിച്ചിരുന്നു കണ്ടു. പ്രായഭേദമന്യേ തങ്ങളുടേതായ രീതിയിൽ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ അവസരമൊരുക്കുന്ന  ഇത് പോലെയുള്ളവ അല്ലെ ക്ലാസിക് സിനിമകൾ. Le ballon rouge - 1956 ഇൽ    Albert Lamorisse  സൃഷ്‌ടിച്ച 35  മിനിറ്റ് ദൈർഖ്യമുള്ള ഒരു ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഷോർട് ഫിലിം ആണ് "ദി റെഡ് ബലൂൺ".  രാവിലെ സ്കൂളിലേക്ക് പോകുമ്പോൾ pascal എന്ന ഒരു കുട്ടിക്ക് കിട്ടുന്ന കാറ്റു നിറഞ്ഞ  ഒരു ചുവന്ന ബലൂണ്. ആ ബലൂണിനു അതിന്റേതായ ഒരു മനസ്സും. പിന്നീട് പാസ്ക്കലും  ബലൂണും തമ്മിലുള്ള കൂട്ടും കളികളും കുസൃതിയും പിണക്കങ്ങളും നമ്മളെ കണ്ണിമ വെട്ടാതെ  പിടിച്ചിരുത്തും. പാസ്കലിന്റെ ദിവസങ്ങൾ എപ്പോഴുംബലൂണിന്റെ  കൂടെ ആണ്. സ്കൂളിലും  വീട്ടിലും പള്ളിയിലും വഴികളിലും എല്ലാം ബലൂൺ പാസ്കലിനെ സന്തോഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.  മറ്റു കുട്ടികൾക്ക് ഇവരോട് അസൂയ ത

കഴിഞ്ഞ ലക്കം "Interiors  &  exteriors" മാസികയിൽ  വന്ന അഭയം എന്ന വീട് എന്റേതുമാണ്. തന്റെ വീടിനെകുറിച്ചുള്ള സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും അതു യാഥാർഥ്യമാക്കിയതിന്റെ പിന്നിലെ ആഹ്ലാദവും അച്ഛൻ ആ കവർ സ്റ്റോറിയിൽ പങ്കുവെച്ചു. K.G .S  അങ്കിൾ , ഗോപിയേട്ടൻ എന്നിവർ  അവരുടെ വീടനുഭവത്തെ മനോഹരമായി  എഴുതി. വീടിന്റെ സാങ്കേതിക  വശം എൻജിനീയർ ബിജു വ്യക്തമാക്കി. 5 വയസ്സ് മുതൽ  ഞാൻ കാണുന്ന , ഞാൻ വളർന്ന ഈ വീടിനെകുറിച്ചു എഴുതാൻ എന്നോട് അച്ഛൻ  ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടപ്പോൾ എന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ ഓടിയെത്തിയത് വേറിട്ട ചില ചിന്തകളായിരുന്നു. ഏറെക്കാലം ( പഠിത്തം കഴിയുന്നത്  വരെ) ഇതു എനിക്കൊരു സാധാരണ വീട് മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. അച്ഛനും അമ്മയും ഞാനും താമസിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവർക്കും  പോലെയുള്ള ഒരു വീട്. ഈ വീടിനെ എനിക്കു ഏറ്റവും പ്രസക്തമാക്കിയത് അതിന്റെ നിർമിതിയിലുള്ള പുതുമയോ സാങ്കേതിക മേന്മയോ ദിവസം മുഴുവൻ വീടിനെ തണുപ്പിക്കുന്ന വായുസഞ്ചാരമോ ഒന്നും ആയിരുന്നില്ല , മറിച്ചു ആ ചുവരുകൾക്കുള്ളിൽ താമസിക്കുന്ന  ജീവനുകൾ ആയിരുന്നു- എന്റെ സ്വന്തം കുടുംബം. എന്റെ സ്കൂൾ ജീവിതകാലവും, യൗവനകാലവും പിന്നീട് കോളേജ് പഠനകാലത്തുള്ള ഇടയ്കിടക്കുള്ള താമസവും എല്ലാം ആയിരുന്നു മ

Couple of weeks ago, my cousin rang me up andasked if i was interested in joining him to watch padayani - a traditional performing art of kerala that is celebrated in few Kaali temples in southern kerala. I had heard a bit about padayani from my father and other friends but did not havetoo much idea about it. Hence decided to explore it. And Boy, Had i not been there, it would have been a huge loss. The history behind padayani goes something like t his. There was a daemon called Daarikan who was an ardent follower of Lord Brahma.He got a boon from the god that he could never be killed by a man and if a drop of his bloo d is spilled into the ground , a thousand daemons would rise from that. The daemon became so powerful because of this boon and he started creating havoc.Lord Shiv a opened his third eye and created goddess Maha Kaali to save the people from Daarikan.She travelled on the back of a daemon called Vethala and confronted Daarikan After a few setbacks, Maha Kaali was fi
